Te Moananui Sanctuary

Te Moananui Sanctuary involves a collaborative effort to establish a vast, interconnected network of protected marine areas spanning the Pacific Ocean. This initiative goes far beyond simply drawing lines on a map; it represents a fundamental shift in how we approach ocean conservation.

At its heart is the recognition that whales are not just isolated creatures, but integral to the health and vitality of the entire Pacific ecosystem. The sanctuary aims to create safe havens where whales can thrive, free from the threats that currently plague them.

Ocean Discovery League

Founded by deep-sea explorer Dr. Katy Croff Bell, the Ocean Discovery League’s mission is to accelerate deep-ocean exploration by developing accessible systems to broaden the community of those who explore and understand the deep sea.

In 2026, after many years in the making, we are planning to acquire and deploy deep sea data collection equipment thanks to our partners at Ocean Discovery League (ODL).

The DORIS (Deep Ocean Research and Imaging System) will allow us to collect ocean data at depths as deep as 6000m.The DORIS is one of several pieces of “affordable” research equipment Apparent Winds will be using and promoting in 2026. We hope that this equipment and others will be part a of a suite of tools we can help get into the hands of community leaders throughout the S. Pacific; making ocean research and data collection less biased, more accessible and much more prevalent  throughout the region. 

Sustainable Ocean Alliance

Sustainable Ocean Alliance (SOA) is focused on developing a global network of marine-based environmental leaders though their Ocean Leadership Program and Ocean Solutions Accelerator.
